Redirects new Connect platforms away from unsupported integration patterns Public preview

What’s new

Adds errors to various APIs to prevent new platforms from using a legacy integration pattern, such as direct charges for legacy Express and legacy Custom accounts. Also provides a Connect setting in the Dashboard where platforms with legitimate use cases can request an exemption.

Impact

New platforms integrating with Connect who attempt to set up direct charges with a legacy Express or legacy Custom account might receive an error because Stripe recommends destination charges for these types of accounts. This change doesn’t affect existing platforms.

Upgrade

1. View your current API version in Workbench.
2. If you use an SDK, upgrade to the corresponding SDK version for this API version.

• If you don’t use an SDK, update your API requests to include Stripe-Version: 2026-08-26. preview

3. Upgrade the API version used for webhook endpoints .
4. Test your integration against the new version.
5. If you use Connect, test your Connect integration .
