Sandbox settings

Learn about how settings work in sandboxes.

When creating a sandbox, you must choose your starting configuration. Choose between Copying your account, so you can create a sandbox that copies settings and capabilities from your existing account, or Create an account from scratch, so you can create a sandbox where nothing is copied.

Copy settings and capabilities

Starting with the same settings and capabilities as your existing account eliminates the need to spend time manually verifying that your sandboxes behave like your existing account. We don’t synchronize settings and capabilities. As a result, they can diverge from live settings and capabilities at any time. This allows for testing how settings and capabilities changes affect integration behavior. See the settings and capabilities copied when you chose the Copy your account configuration.

To copy settings and capabilities from your existing account, click Create sandbox > Copy your account. Stripe provides placeholder business data to help you start testing most Stripe features. This sandbox includes placeholder data in the same country as your existing account.

Create a blank sandbox

To create a blank sandbox where nothing is copied from your existing account, click Create sandbox > Create an account from scratch.

Create a sandbox with a country different from your live account

To create a sandbox with a country different from your live account, choose the Create an account from scratch configuration. Then, set the country in the Account details tab of the Business settings for the sandbox.

Sandbox settings management

Stripe copies some settings while excluding others when setting up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration.

Account capabilities

Some capabilities are permanent. After you enable them, you can’t disable them. Stripe copies the following account capabilities when you set up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration:

`payouts`	A sandbox is configured to perform payouts.
`link_payments`	A sandbox is configured to process Link payments.
`affirm_payments`	A sandbox is configured to process Affirm payments.
`us_bank_account_ach_payments`	A sandbox is configured to process ACH Direct Debit payments.
`afterpay_clearpay_payments`	A sandbox is configured to process Afterpay Clearpay payments.
`p24_payments`	A sandbox is configured to process P24 payments.
`transfers`	A sandbox is configured to transfer funds as a Connect platform to connected accounts.

Billing settings

To open your billing settings in the Dashboard, click Settings > Billing.

Setting up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration excludes the following billing settings:

`Customer portal`	Stripe doesn’t copy domains from your live account. You must add a new domain to test it in a sandbox.
`Automations`	Stripe doesn’t copy automations or their states from your live account.

Business settings

To open your business settings in the Dashboard, click Settings > Business.

Setting up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration excludes the following business settings:

`Custom domains`	Stripe doesn’t copy domains from your live account. You must add a new domain to test it in a sandbox.
`Public details`	Stripe doesn’t copy domains from your live account. Instead, Stripe adds placeholder domains to enable payments in a sandbox.

Capital settings

Stripe copies all Capital settings when you set up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration.

Connect settings

To open your Connect settings in the Dashboard, click Settings > Connect.

Setting up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration excludes the following Connect settings:

`Onboarding options - OAuth`	Stripe doesn’t copy redirect URIs from your live platform. You must add a redirect URI to test it in a sandbox.
`Onboarding options - Tax`	Stripe only copies these settings if Tax is enabled on your live platform.
`Tax reporting`	Stripe only copies these settings if Tax is enabled on your live platform.
`Emails`	Stripe doesn’t copy email domains from your live platform. You must add a new email domain to test it in a sandbox.

Financial Connections settings

Stripe copies all Financial Connections settings when you set up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration.

Issuing settings

Stripe only copies Issuing settings if Issuing is enabled on your live platform. To open your Issuing settings in the Dashboard, click Settings > Issuing.

Setting up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration excludes the following Issuing settings:

`Authorization webhooks`	Stripe doesn’t copy authorization webhooks from your live account. You must add new webhook endpoints to test them in a sandbox.
`Digital wallets`	Digital wallets aren’t available in sandboxes.
`Personalization designs`	Stripe doesn’t copy personalization designs from your live account. You must create a new personalization design to test it in a sandbox.

Payments settings

To open your payments settings in the Dashboard, click Settings > Payments.

Stripe copies all payment methods that are enabled or pending in your live account.

Setting up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration excludes the following payments settings:

`Checkout and Payment Links`	Stripe doesn’t copy the `Conversion testing program` setting. To join this program, adjust this setting in your live account.
`Payment methods`	Stripe enables all payment methods that are enabled or pending in your live account. Stripe automatically enables some additional payment methods for testing purposes.
`Payment method domains`	Stripe doesn’t copy domains from your live account. You must add a new domain to test it in a sandbox.

Payouts settings

To open your payouts settings in the Dashboard, click Settings > Business.

Stripe copies the following settings:

Payouts setting	Functionality
`Enabled currencies`	Stripe copies the list of enabled currencies from your live account.
`Minimum balances payouts settings`	Stripe copies the minimum balances settings from your live account.
`Payout schedule`	Stripe copies the payout schedule for your live account.
`Custom start of day`	Stripe copies the custom start of day for transaction availability from your live account.
`Instant payouts settings`	Stripe copies the instant payouts settings and thresholds from your live account.

Radar settings

Stripe doesn’t copy any Radar settings when you set up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration.

Sigma settings

Stripe doesn’t copy any Sigma settings when you set up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration. Sigma is free to use in sandboxes, with no usage limits, and does not require an active Sigma plan.

Tax settings

To open your tax settings in the Dashboard, click Settings > Tax.

Setting up a new sandbox with the Copy your account configuration excludes the following tax setting:
